How much space does an outdoor sauna need?

Measure your spot before you pick a model. These are the outside sizes, weights and power needs Sun Home lists for its four outdoor saunas, with footprint worked out for you.

Sizes, weights and power as listed by Sun Home on October 13, 2026. *Footprint is length × width, our own arithmetic, rounded. It does not include walking space around the sauna.

Height: do you have headroom?

The Luminar models stand about 6.9 and 7 feet tall. The Solaris models are 94.5 inches, about 7.9 feet. If you plan to tuck one under a deck, pergola or tree limbs, measure the clearance first, and leave room to work around it.

Weight: what the base must hold

Spread across its footprint, the listed weight comes to roughly 33 to 48 pounds per square foot (our arithmetic, empty, and weight may not be spread evenly). People, furniture and stones add more. Sun Home says the Solaris needs a load-bearing pad rated for its full weight. Ask a local contractor what base suits your soil before delivery. We do not have a verified base specification for the Luminar, so check Sun Home's installation guide.

Power: plan the circuit first

Every model needs its own 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician. The Luminar plugs into a GFCI outlet (NEMA L6-20 or L6-30). The Solaris is hardwired. Get the electrician's quote and the run from your panel to the sauna before you order, since distance affects cost. See what an outdoor sauna costs to run for the electricity side.

Delivery and access

Permits and rules

Some towns treat an outdoor sauna as an accessory structure, and rules vary on distance from property lines. We do not have your local rules, so ask your building department.

Health note. Sauna heat isn't right for everyone. If you're pregnant, have a heart condition or another health concern, talk to your doctor before you start.
